Samar Mehra is a TV actor who is no longer as famous as he once was. He has many flaws and struggles to understand modern ideas about gender, respect, and power. He is happy in a new relationship with a younger woman named Khushi. But his life changes when his former girlfriend, Gayatri, tries to come back into his life. Samar refuses to talk to her, blocks her, and cuts all contact. Soon after, Gayatri accuses him of rape. He is arrested and becomes trapped in a corrupt legal system that keeps him behind bars.
At first, Samar refuses to accept the seriousness of his situation. He even tells his sister that he would rather be accused of murder than rape because he believes a murder charge is less damaging to his masculine image. He blames everyone around him and reacts with anger instead of facing reality.
After the court refuses him bail, Samar begins to lose hope. He moves between different prison groups, asking his sister for money to buy protection inside the jail. As loneliness grows, he falls into depression. His emotional breakdown is shown through the strange conversations he has with the cockroaches living in his prison cell.
For most of the film, Samar calls Gayatri a stalker and blames her for everything. However, by the ending, he realizes that his own actions may have hurt her deeply. He ignored her messages, refused to meet her, and even avoided opening the door when she came to see him. Instead of giving her an honest explanation, he simply disappeared from her life and started dating other women.
Although Samar never meant to harm Gayatri, he finally accepts that his careless behavior may have damaged her mental peace and driven her toward an extreme act. His apology to Khushi is not because he committed the crime, but because he fears that he may have unknowingly caused emotional pain through his actions.
At the end of the story, Samar writes a letter from jail to Khushi. In the letter, he apologizes and admits that he has started questioning himself. He wonders if the way he treated Gayatri may have emotionally pushed her to falsely accuse him of rape.
Legally, Samar is innocent of the rape charge under Section 376. The story clearly shows that Gayatri planned the false accusation, even going as far as injuring herself because of her deep feelings of rejection and her desire for revenge. However, the film suggests that Samar still carries moral responsibility. His downfall is not caused by rape, but by years of avoiding responsibility, treating people carelessly, failing to pay his household staff, and refusing to communicate honestly.
