Peddi Movie Plot
In 2016, India performs poorly at the Olympic Games. A Sports Ministry official is scolded by the Sports Minister for the disappointing results. While visiting a town in Andhra Pradesh, the official notices that many young people are passionate about sports. They all say that a man named Peddi inspired them. Curious to know more, the official travels through forests and hills to reach a remote hilltop village that has no official name.
The story then moves back to 1994. The village is a poor tribal settlement in the Vizianagaram region. It is not officially recognized by the government, and the people suffer from discrimination, poverty, and abuse by powerful upper-caste landlords. One of the villagers, Appalasoori, has spent 30 years asking the government to recognize the village, give it a name, and build a railway station so the people can connect with the outside world.
Peddi, Appalasoori's close friend, earns a living by playing cricket in local tournaments for prize money. He is an outstanding player and has never lost a match. During this time, he falls in love with Achiyamma, the daughter of a local politician.
One day, Rambujji, the nephew of a rival politician, tries to publicly shame Achiyamma by pulling off her skirt. Peddi steps in and saves her, leading to a violent fight. To take revenge, Rambujji later arranges for Peddi to lose an important cricket tournament and humiliates him in front of everyone. Even after the defeat, the people continue to admire and respect Peddi.
A famous wrestler named Gournaidu sees Peddi's natural talent and offers to train him in traditional wrestling. At first, Peddi refuses the offer.
Later, tragedy strikes when a child from the village dies while the villagers are walking through the forest for work. Heartbroken, Appalasoori once again asks a government minister to help the village, but the minister insults and humiliates him instead. Unable to bear the pain, Appalasoori takes his own life by jumping in front of a moving train.
Angered by his friend's death, Peddi and the villagers damage the railway tracks in protest. The police respond with violence. Realizing that nothing will change unless someone fights for the village, Peddi decides to fulfill Appalasoori's dream. He joins Gournaidu and begins intense wrestling training. Through hard work, he wins several local and state-level competitions.
Just before reaching the national championship, a jealous rival badly injures Peddi's leg. Even with the serious injury, he manages to win the semi-final match before collapsing. When he wakes up, doctors tell him that he will never be able to wrestle again.
The government offers him an office job as compensation, but Peddi refuses. He leaves Achiyamma behind and travels to Delhi to meet the National Railways Minister. However, the minister insults him, ignores his request, and says that his injury is only an excuse.
Determined to help his village, Peddi makes a shocking decision. He has his damaged leg amputated and begins using a running blade prosthetic. After months of painful training, he becomes a para-athlete.
In 1996, Peddi wins a national track race. During his victory speech, he tells the whole country about his village, which still has no official identity or railway station. His speech is shown on television, and it deeply touches the people watching. His villagers are moved to tears, Achiyamma proudly declares herself to be his wife, and even Rambujji changes after seeing Peddi's courage.
Because of the public support, the central government finally recognizes the village and approves the construction of a railway station. The government wants to name the station after Peddi, but he asks them to name the village Appalavalasa in memory of Appalasoori, the man who fought for it for so many years.
Peddi returns home as a hero. He reunites with his mother and Achiyamma, and the entire village celebrates their long-awaited victory.
In the present day, after learning Peddi's inspiring story, the Sports Ministry official decides to launch a nationwide program to find and support talented athletes from remote villages across India.
